«I have always believed love conquers all - yesterday I got to see it in action.

In the last week over 30,000 of you added your name to mine calling for the release of Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga - the Malawi couple sentenced to 14 years hard labor for the "crime" of homosexuality.

With incredible joy, I am writing to share with you that Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika has ordered their release. Steven and Tiwonge were freed on Saturday night. They have won their freedom and you have been a part of it. (...)

We celebrate this astounding turn of events with Steven, Tiwonge, and the countless Malawians fighting for their release. It is a historic day for Malawi. (...)

Bent on Learning

As a yoga practitioner (and soon-to-be instructor), this one really made my day.

Bent on Learning is a project that offers instruction in yoga and meditation to students in grades K through 12, in New York City public schools and youth centers, as a means of reducing stress and improving concentration, self-esteem and overall health. It also includes training to public school teachers and staff in yogic techniques and exercises, so they can assist students in focusing their energies.

Being a long-time yoga practitioner, M attended the 2nd Annual Bent on Learning Benefit, on April 28th, which took place at the Puck Building, in New York City.
And to make things even better, she brought Lola along - whose style is becoming more and more interesting, as she gets older.

In some shots, Lola's similarities with M are amazing...

Brasil Diaries VIII: The Donation

Feb. 12 - Madonna receives a US$ 1 million donation from Brahma, to implement the "Success For Kids" educational program in Rio de Janeiro - due to have its official start in March. The ceremony took place at Hotel Fasano, in Ipanema, where M was staying.

Brasil Diaries V: Meeting Governor José Serra

Feb. 10 - Madonna presents her project to São Paulo Governor José Serra. The Success For Kids program offers classes for children, to work their self-esteem and pro-activity.

At the occasion, Serra offers M the book "Roupa de Artista - O Vestuário na Obra de Arte".

Brasil Diaries III: In São Paulo

Feb. 10 - First stop in São Paulo: the ONG Meninos do Morumbi institute. Madonna is offered a special performance by 300 kids from the institute (6-16 years old).

Hope for Haiti Now: Like a Prayer

Her voice is p-e-r-f-e-c-t. The musical arrangement is stunning. And to think of what happened in Haiti and listening to this song... I get chills everytime I see this.

M's statement following earthquake in Haiti

My prayers are with the people of Haiti. I can’t imagine the terrible pain and suffering they are experiencing. Sadly the depths of the tragedy are just becoming known and the need for our support grows more urgent with every passing moment.
I have given a donation of $250,000 to assist Haiti’s earthquake victims through Partner’s in Health (http://www.pih.org/) one of Haiti’s leading health care providers.
